So I love shopping! Who doesn’t right?! Buying photography props for my newborns is one of the aspects of my business that I enjoy, quite a bit. Over the last few years I have really spent a lot of time developing my style. I have looked at and tried many different vendors and there are so many to choose from who make props like hats and bonnets, rompers, pants and shorts sets, tiebacks, stuffies etc for newborns.
When I was researching different vendors I came across Tricia at Off My Hooks. I loved her goodies and she has been making me props for a couple of years now. She has made me a few crocheted items like shorts and hats and felted items like hats, bonnets and my stuffies (Winnie the Pooh set, music note etc). Not only does she have high quality and well-made goodies but she is friendly, sweet and just someone I enjoy working with and getting to know.
I love being able to share with you some of the people that help make my business better. So what better way to do that than feature her on the blog?
Meet Tricia and Off My Hooks….
SRP: Tell me a little bit about yourself and why you started.
OMH: I had learned how to crochet a few years back and started making hats for friends and family. There were lots of requests for character hats such as Anna and Elsa for children but what I enjoyed the most was making things for babies. A local photographer put an ISO post on Facebook for newborn props one day and a few of my friends tagged me, we connected and I realized this was the community I wanted to be a part of. It is so exciting to me when I open up my Facebook in the morning and see a tag from a photographer using my products!
SRP: How long have you been in business?
OMH: I started Off My Hooks around 3 years ago this spring but have since moved on from crochet into felted pieces such as little stuffies for babies to hold & bonnets.
SRP: Tell me about your business and the products you create.
OMH: A lot of the items I create stem from brainstorming with photographers, items that mean something to them that they would like to offer their clients or items that mean something to mom & dad. Lots of times things that trend are based on popular movies as well.
SRP: What is your favorite product?
OMH: My favorite set would have to be my rollers wig with a little matching hairdryer stuffie. I created that for a photographer whose mom was a hairdresser. Another photographer, Lemon Lily Photography created a standing dryer to match & that image ended up going viral, which was a surprise but so exciting!! Since then I have made many rollers hats & all kinds of different accessories to match.
SRP: What is your favorite part of owning your own business?
OMH: I love having something that is all my own. The success or lack of it is all based on me & that’s very motivating to me. I love having flexibility with my hours & working from home & being creative.
SRP: Do you only work with photographers?
OMH: The majority of my clients are photographers but I will occasionally get contacted by a mom looking for props to bring to her little ones first photo shoot.
SRP: Where can we find you?
OMH: I can be found on Facebook HERE & Intagram HERE. I take orders through my page & send invoices through PayPal. I may eventually open an online store but I enjoy the personal aspect of messaging & that also allows me to have a better handle on how much I take on at once & to adjust turnaround times accordingly.
Thank you so much Stephanie!!
