Breastfeeding is such a special and natural thing. It is really sad that there can be such a negative stigma around it. Not really sure why that is but it is. Anyway, I get that it is not for everyone but I breastfed my kids and really believe that it was what was best for my children and I. When Julie came in for her newborn session we got talking about it and she mentioned that she would love to do a session like that.
Session Day
After having a baby it is so hard to get to the space where we are ok with our bodies. Especially when it comes to being photographed when we don’t feel so great. Julie came a few months after baby and I believe that she looked amazing. I know she was feeling a bit uncomfortable I really wanted her to feel as beautiful as she looked. We had a few dresses picked out and baby J was nice and hungry when she got here (and a bit on the grumpy side since he had to wait for his meal LOL).
Once we got the dresses out I knew they were be perfect for her. She looked beautiful. Julie has a few tattoos and I just think they are so unique and I love when I can capture an image that shows a peek of her personality. Baby J was more than happy to start the session and get his food.
We are Women!
Doing things out of our comfort zone is hard. Showing some skin when you don’t feel at your most beautiful is even more difficult. I have so much respect for those who do. Julie trusted me to not only capture these special moments with her baby but to show her how gorgeous she truly is. She is a mom. She is exactly who she is supposed to be and she is raising some pretty awesome kids. This right here. This is the reason I LOVE photographing women and motherhood. From maternity images to where we feel at our worst (most of the time) to recovery and beyond. Check out some of my favorite images from our session together.

Yes! It is so hard to be ok with your post birth body. So important to embrace it! And these are gorgeous!
Baby’s sleepy little lashes while nursing, hits me right in the mommy-feels. Motherhood is such a beautiful thing, and breastfeeding photos are a wonderful way to freeze a time period that just goes by too quickly.
