This is always so tough for me. I am such a person that stays busy and wears a ton of hats so to speak. I feel like I always have something going on. Whether it’s raising my four kids, working at church in the nursery or even being on the board for my son’s football league. Not to mention running my own photography business. The list could go on and on. And it is really hard for me to cut back. I love doing all of it. But there are definitely days when I feel like I am spread too thin.
Doing It All
So the year before last just about wore me out. Besides my kids and my business I was volunteering in my kids schools, photographing my kids playing football and helping with the league and being really, really active in my church. I told myself that I needed to cut back a bit. I just felt so stretched too thin and stressed all day and was actually getting twitches in my eyelids every single day. It was really ridiculous.
Stop Growing So Fast!
My kids are growing up so fast. Even though I was doing a lot of these activities with them I still did not feel like I was spending the quality time with them that I wanted and needed. I had to really sit down and refocus on what really mattered. My family. My health. I did not want to look back on this time in their lives and have regrets. And as much as I loved the things zi was doing I loved my family more.
Making the Changes
When I decided to make these changes it turned out to be not as hard as I thought it would be. LOL I guess the world keeps on turning without me doing everything. And it was ok. I cut back some of my volunteering time at the kids schools, stepped out of a couple of church activities and stopped photographing certain session. I still need to try and not get too busy these days but I do not regret this at all. I’ve been able to spend more time one on one with my kids and not feel so stressed every day.
I did get a puppy though which might have piled on some extra work but that’s ok. It’s work at home with the family and being together. And who doesn’t love puppies?
Watch Your Health
While staying physically active is important, it is also important to keep an eye on your emotional/mental health as well. As women, we tend to have that mentality of needing to do everything. While drive is great it can become all consuming. Don’t let yourself get to the point of feeling overwhelmed and tired 100% of the time. Stay aware of the signs that you may be overdoing it. Take time for yourself so you can be a better parent and spouse. Self care is a thing. Do it. Spend time with your family. Before you know it the kids will be grown and in college or out of the house. You can’t get these days back. Enjoy them while you can. <3
