What a time we are living in. I have never seen anything like this and do not think I ever will again. To quote IronMan from Avengers (yes, I’m a nerd and they are my favorite movies) “…the Earth is closed today…”. This may have a different meaning in the movie than it does today but it certainly feels like the entire earth is closed.
My Business is Closed….Temporarily
Up here in Seattle (I’m on the Eastside of King County) and all of Washington state, all non-essential businesses are being asked to close. With a heavy heart, and a few tears, I did just that. I had a few sessions scheduled which I had to cancel and that just broke my heart. Being a newborn and maternity photographer, it’s just those moments you can’t get back that just makes it so heartbreaking. I wasn’t able to attend a good friend’s birth or capture that time for her either. But there is nothing more important than the safety of my clients.
Everyone’s Here
My husband is working from home and my kids schools are closed and have been for a few weeks. We’ve all been home during this time practicing as much social distancing as we can but last week our governor stopped “suggesting” we just stop gathering in larger groups but he basically issued a stay-at-home order. And now I’m supposed to homeschool. What?? I have no idea what I am doing there, especially for the older kids. Man, I love my teachers today more than I normally do. They clearly need a raise and a big one. LOL
Show Grace
With everything closed, it is so important not to get swallowed up in doing nothing. I know with my depression and occasional anxiety I needed to do something. I think that first week all I did was lay around and read or watch tv. It was not a good thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good book but…it’s time to start adjusting to this new but hopefully temporary normal and allowing peace to prevail.
My church has started doing online services and that was a huge help getting me out of that funk I was drowning in as well and giving me hope and peace. I realized that I needed to give myself some grace. It is not the end of the world if my kids aren’t in online school every minute or at all or if I’m not doing everything correct right now. My business will still be here after all this is over. But most importantly we are all healthy and safe.
Moving Forward
Staying healthy…isn’t this what is most important? That we are all making these sacrifices to stop the spread of this virus so we can all get back to our normal lives? A hundred times, yes. I am definitely ready to get back out into the world and go for walks and see my friends and work again. I miss people and I definitely miss my clients and snuggling babies.
Find Something You Love to Do
Finding something to do has been so important in getting through this time. That and movies. I love movies. LOL Anywho…. I decided I was going to use this time to really work on things I had been putting off due to being busy or whatever. I’ve got nothing but time for the foreseeable future. To focus on the things I love…like my family and cooking, reading, my faith and learning. I love to learn, especially about all things photography related. Can you say SEO and Marketing classes!?I have a massive library of classes I want to do and I can’t wait to get through some of them.
See You Soon
After all this is done, I will be looking forward to seeing you again face to face. But in the meantime, I am here if you need me. If you need someone to talk to or someone to pray for you, I am just a phone call or an email away. Please reach out. You are not alone. Stay healthy. Stay Safe.
