One thing I love about working with seniors is getting to know what they like to do in their free time. I have three sons and two of them are athletes. My second son is a varsity football player, and a senior too, at the local high school here in Fort Worth. My youngest son plays soccer. So needless to say it’s been a lot of fun being involved in all of that. For fun I like to go up and photograph these kids playing their respective sports. Nothing brings me more joy in my business when the teens get excited for me to be there and love the pictures I take of them. So over the last couple of years I have been working towards creating a new type of session. They are sports portraits, or “sportraits” as I have heard a time or two.
Two Types of Sessions
So for my sports portrait sessions I have decided to offer them in a couple of ways. The first would be as an add-on for a booked senior session. This way my seniors can have access to both and get a good discount if they want some sports pics along with their senior session. The second way would be as a stand alone session. I know that athletes are not always only seniors and I really wanted to make this available to all.
Your Only Job
Well sports sessions are usually always held at the student’s school, whether it is in the locker room or on the field. And many times both locations. BUT to be on school property, especially inside the locker room, we NEED to have permission from the coach. That’s where you come in. I don’t have the relationship with your coach so you will need to obtain permission for that as well …and getting access to your uniform and any equipment you want to use. I know for football my son’s gear was always left at school so it wouldn’t get misplaced. But it’s usually a quick ask since we are at the school anyway.
Session Day
Just recently, I decided to grab my oldest son and a couple of his friends and have a quick session. It was so fun and I think the boys were really happy with how they came out. Take a peek at a few of my faves and what you can expect from a Sportrait Session.
