Heading out for this excursion took a few turns before we actually made it out. My friend, Julie, and I planned a trip but the weather decided to challenge us a bit this time. This week we decided to head out to Alki Beach. This is a fantastic spot across the water with amazing views of downtown Seattle. I had not been there before and was excited to see it. We thought getting there at sunrise would be a cool perspective.
A Change of Plans
Earlier in the day on the day before we were set to go out, my son says to me that he wants to come. I tell him that we are leaving at like 4am and remind him how early that is. He still wants to go. Alright I say skeptical that he will actually get up. As the evening wore on the weather was getting worse and it was scheduled to be so rainy the next morning. We are ok with a bit if rain but pouring rain is not ideal. We decided to do a sunset trip instead. Connor still wanted to come and I was excited he wanted to tag along. Our friend Cristi joined us as well which was awesome.
Heading Out
We had some good clouds in the sky all day which always makes for great pictures but right as we get in the car to drive out there it starts POURING. Rain held off all day and now this. We decided to go anyway and I am so glad that we did. The rain let up to a drizzle by the time we arrived. Good thing I brought my camera’s rain coat.
Alki Beach
As we arrive in Alki a massive rainbow bursts out in the sky and it was truly a site to see. We stopped a bit early to try and catch it but it was already fading by the time we got our cameras out. I got one or two pictures but they just don’t do it justice. Glad I got a chance to see it either way. Connor thought it was pretty cool.
Once we got to the beach the sun was just about to set. It was still drizzling but the weather was pretty nice. Cool and rainy. Just the way I like it. LOL We walked around for a few minutes and the sky just turned these amazing shades of pink and orange. It was so pretty and I loved just being out on the water’s edge. We could hear a huge seal barking away and see him sitting on some rocks near the edge of a huge barge. Connor took my phone and was running around taking pictures and was so proud of what he was grabbing. He even saw a seal swimming off shore.
Seattle at Night
So night photography is hard!! I was excited to learn something new but was not prepared for how challenging it was. There was so much to think about. Even took me a second to find the timer for my shutter. I know I know…I have not used it before. LOL (Thanks Cristi) The wind picked up a bit so there was a bit of movement with the camera but overall it was good.
I loved just being able to play around and look at the city lights after dark. Seattle is such a gorgeous city, especially at night. Being able to see the entire city from the Space Needle to Century Link Field was pretty spectacular. I may just print one of these for the house.
Stay tuned to see what comes next….
